If you want to get more smarter you need to have more challenging tasks, it is a great thing to fail your work but you don't need to fail things that you know already. When you fail you are making more connections through your neurons.
Part of your learning is your emotions your emotions are part of your learning so if you fell happy, calm and relaxed it is good for your learning, but being tired, grumpy and anxious makes you not so focused in your learning.
